Ooo La La! The Ever Cool Look of Jean Seberg in "Breathless"

So modern, so clean, so Parisian and yet so American - the look of Jean Seberg in Jean Luc Goddard's 1960 classic "Breathless" never fails to take my breath away!

Every photo looks as thought it could have been taken yesterday. Breathless and timeless.

She is simply stunning.

A Crystal Rim: Beautiful Poetry

a poem by Hafiz

The Earth lifts its glass to the sun
And light - light is poured.

A bird comes and sits on a crystal rim
And from my forest cave I hear singing.

So I run to the edge of existence
And join my soul in love.

I lift my heart to god and grace is poured.

An emerald bird rises from inside me
And now sits upon the beloved's glass.

I have left that dark cave forever.

My body has blended with his.

I lay my wing as a bridge to you
So that you can join us singing.

(translated by Daniel Ladinsky)

Hafiz was a 14th century Persian poet who wrote poems of incomparable beauty and compassion. "The Gift," a volume of his work, is one of my most precious possessions. Translator and poet mesh for a mystical experience.

F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald

With all of the attention being paid to "The Great Gatsby," let's take a moment to remember how beautiful Scott and Zelda were in their prime. Life would not always be kind to them, but they sure did shine beautifully, didn't they?

Scott & Zelda

Young, beautiful and brilliant
People try so hard to believe in leaders now, pitifully hard. But we no sooner get a popular reformer or politician or soldier or writer or philosopher — a Roosevelt, a Tolstoi, a Wood, a Shaw, a Nietzsche, than the cross-currents of criticism wash him away. My Lord, no man can stand prominence these days. It's the surest path to obscurity. People get sick of hearing the same name over and over.

Scott looking very much like the Arrow Collar Man

Zelda - La Belle Flapper

"The Circus"  - painted by Zelda in 1938

Zelda - by artist Heather Shirin
Now I am off to read "Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald" because a flapper's work is never done.

Rudolph Valentino and Pola Negri by Frederico Beltran Masses

The exotic Pola Negri and Rudolph Valentino  in the full bloom of their hot house romance captured by artist Frederico Beltran Masses.

I love this romantic portrait.
